Yubu means ‘ancestral’ in Garifuna and that is exactly what Yubu is about.Yubu is a showpiece for the Garifuna culture hoping to bring awareness of this unique and thrilling culture and helping to keep it alive.

WHERE IS YUBU - THE GARIFUNA EXPERIENCE?
Yubu is located at Politilly Bight, just before the entrance to the Garifuna village of Punta Gorda.
(about 20 minutes out of French Harbour)
It is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, entrance fee is $5 per person.

ACTIVITIES AT YUBU - THE GARIFUNA EXPERIENCE?
At Yubu the visitors will learn about the descendants of the Garifuna, their history, journey and arrival in Honduras.
They will experience the music, songs and dance styles of the Garifuna people which play an important part in their ancestral traditions and are an integral part of their culture.

Visitors will learn about the unique language and religious system of the Garifuna
They will get a glimpse into the every day life of the Garifuna, see how their traditional food is prepared and learn about the many different aspects of this unique culture. They will see the women preparing and baking cassava bread on the authentic mud stove.
The traditional home building style of years ago will be displayed explaining the use of the materials and the technique of building.

There is a Museum area displaying all this information including a Historical map and photo gallery.
There is a Gift Shop selling original Garifuna arts and crafts, Garifuna music from various Garifuna artists and a video/DVD of the Garifuna experience.
