Notable Garifuna Figures

Dedication, perseverance, discipline, and perseverance make dreams come true. Johnhy Batiz is an  immigrant of Honduran descent and Garifuna Ancestry who owns AFI Multi Services. He started his company after he arrived in  the city that never sleeps and high migrant population, identified an indisputable need for  reliable and quality services for the Garifuna immigrant community of New York.

AFl Multiservices, is  a provider of a wide range of services  including help with immigration forms, public notary services, document translation,  letter preparation, income tax return preparation, insurance and driving school service. His office is located at 509 Willis Avenue, third floor in the Bronx.

In addition to being a business owner, he has also worked as  a Trilingual (Garifuna, Spanish, English) teacher  in New York City Public Schools’ District  75, providing highly specialized educational support for students with significant challenges. He previously worked with unaccompanied migrant children and youth at The New Life School, fostering the true potential of each individual student to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. He also worked as a customer service representative in the Healthcare sector with Sun River Health and Hospitals. 

Johnny is a Former Fellow of the Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) in the class of 2007 – 2009, an educational plan affiliated with Georgetown University implemented in cooperation with institutions in the communities themselves and with funds from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The objective of CASS is to prepare students to become trained and responsible workers and well-informed citizens who through their actions develop as promoters of change in their community. 
 
Scholarships are offered by the U.S. Embassy in Honduras for Honduran students who wish to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies at U.S. universities. The CASS scholarship call is aimed at outstanding students who demonstrate leadership, social commitment, and academic excellence.
 
Previously, Johnny was a  sole proprietor in Honduras  and Merchant Marine Agent, helping youth and adults from the Garifuna community obtain employment with Carnival Corporation's Princess Cruises company and also obtain a work or study visa to Canada. 

Johnny Bátiz Ruiz is originally from the community of Sangrelaya, Iriona, Colon, Honduras. He is a father, husband, with two children, one 6 years old and the other 3 years old. 
 
He holds an Associate of Science degree from Fox Valley Technical College sponsored by USAID and Georgetown University.
 
Dedication, perseverance, discipline, and perseverance have allowed Johnny to  do what he loves most, teach, and help his community, providing reliable and quality services to the Garifuna migrant community of New York, transforming himself from Change Agent to Entrepreneur in the Capital of the World.
